Hutt River Board
Reporting to the Hutt River at its meeting last week, the engineer, Mr. H. Sladden, said there were several rises in the river during the last two months, the highest being a flood on Monday, July 13th which rose to 10 feet 3 inches on the guage, being Bfeet 3inches above; normal high tide 'level* at the Hull bridge. In the lower reaches only minor damage had occurred. In the higher reaches of the river district the partly repaired embankment across the flood channel Native Land was again breached and some erosion occurred at the lower end of Walker's Island (Board's property). The embankment has now been fully repaired and tethered willow protective work completed at Walker's island. The latter has been effective in the freshes since the Hoods since the flood of July 18th. The embankment has been completed only since the last fresh. There is nothingelse of importance to report. Manor Park.—Conditions are satisfactory. There are now sheep depasturing on the property with access to the willows. The widows are about to sprout and will be damaged unless the sheep are kept from them. Speedy's (right bank). — There has been somewhat more erosion above the confluence of the Belmont Stream but until ma.teriajs are available it is not possible to check this. As before reported the probability of serious damage is not great.
