The monthly meeting of the Lower Hutt Branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union was held in St James's Hall when forty members attended. The president welcomed three new members, Mesdames Ulundell, Marwick and Sim. also Mrs. J. T. Macky who was elected at the July meeting. It was decided to support the appeal made by Mrs Weston, .presi.lent of the W.R.S.A. (women's sectioii), that workers for the Lady Galvuy Guild should devote their allotted day to making articles suitable for selling at a shop day to be held before Christmas, to augment Ihe Rose Day Fund.
"Crusade for Victory," a circular letter issued by the National 'Joordinating Committee of the Vv'-j----men's Division and Women's Itistitute was read, appealing to all v.o-
men in city, town and country 10 grow as many potatoes and other vegetables as,possible, and also to increase egg production as rr to supply more foodstuff to Britain* au£ our Allied Forces. Under n> circumstances should ahy of the tillable shipping space be taken up in bringing food or luxuries to us. Members were unanimous in supporting this appeal. The president, Mrs. Stevenson, was appointed delegate to represent the Division at a meeting convened by the mayoress to arrange for comforts for the Fighting Frencllj Forcels. It was decided that the W.D.F.'U Spinning Circle be confined to members of the Division. I3v courtesy of Drs. Buckler and Turbott, of the Health Department, four very interesting talkie films were shown, the first, entitled "Th Red Army" showed how easily a place may be infested with bed bugs and the precautions to be taken. The second film, "Children, Carry On" depicLed child welfare work in England. Incidentally it was men-
tioned that a Child Welfare Clinic would shortly be opened in Lower Hutt City, commencing in a small way, and would be the first of its kind in New Zealand. The third film. "Another to Conquer" portrayed the ravages of tuberculosis, a highly contagious disease and showed how steps could be taken to con bat. it. The fourth film "Choose To Live" dealt with the cancer scourge. It was shown clearly that many thousands of lives could be saved annually if patients would submit to an early examination. The ' doctors were thank oil for their most interesting and instructive demonstration.
