Farewell Social

The high esteem in which the retiring first, assistant of i Hut! Valley High School was held, was amply demonstrated last, week when a number of presentations by various sections of the school were made to Mr. (!. .1. MeXaught on the eve of his departure to lake up Hie position of headmaster at the >.'ew Plymouth High School. On Thursday afternoon, at a purely school function. Xada Evans, on behalf of (he pupils, presented Mr MeXaught with a. coffee service, and on behalf of the staff, the. headmaster. Mr. J. X. .Millard, .presented him with a handsome dressing case. On Friday evening Mr and Mrs. MeXaught were the guests of honour at a large social gathering in the Assembly Hall, when parent?, and old pupils gathered to farewell one who had become an outstanding personality among them during the past sixteen years. Mr. .Millard spoke of the close friendship which had grown up between Mr. .MeXaught and himself (itiring their years of working together. He would iV'el it a great personal wrench to lose the happy associations. He was pleased he had earned such well deserved promotion and would follow the progress of both Air and Mrs MeXaught with the greatest interest. He was certain they would carry away with them the very best wishes of everyone connected with the school. Mr. D. A. Ewen, chairman of the Board of Governors, said he wapleased that Mr. services to education mid to his country had been recognised. The school regretted losing one of such experience and personality. In his opinion the boys and girls from the Hutt Valley High School were as fine as lie had met anywhere He greatly appreciated the many friendships he and his wife had made and the help given by the parents. He warmly thanjked the donors for the handsome present. Rousing cheers and musical honours to the guests concluded this ■■part of the evening, the remainder being spent in dancing, preceded by an excellent musical programme.
