Christian Order
The Hutt Valley campaign for Christian Order was opened at Kingj George Theatre on Sunday afternoon under the National Council of Churches in New Zealand the Rev. F. J. Parker presided and representative of the following churches wovp present nn the platform: —| Anglican. Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist. Congregational, Church of Christ, Salvation Army and Society of Friends. "We must rethink the Christian message, we must proclaim it to the world, and we must live it" said the Veil. Archdeacon W. Bullock in his address. The message of the campaign was. he said, a message of to-day; if was not old and hoary, but always fresh and new. God was speaking through the events of to-day as he did of old. The message must, also be one for the outsider and not only for the individual himself; it must not be confined to church or Sunday, but must be lived in a workaday world. The Christian had to turn the world upside down. There was an inverted scale of values. The true order was God, man, things, and money, each serving the one above. The world had inverted that order and given Hitler his opportunity. Men haVe been made to serve things instead of things serving nifin. Mr. W. Wadnian (New Zealand Society of Friends), said we must get. away from the idea that the war would solve any problems. The western democracies were seeking wealth, pleasure, and ease, and the dictator nations power; each must learn that selfsacrificing service was the only ideal of life. The ideas of "will it pay.'" and "what will I gel out o.f it had to be abolished. We had to find a new basis for society, and for that we needed the inspiration of the Christian gospel and the ideals of the New Testament. The mayoress, Mrs. J. W. Andrews speaking on behalf of the citizens of Lower Hutt, delivered an inspiring message and urged her hearers to support the campaign for a better understanding of Christian order. Musical items were given by the League of Mothers' choir and the Salvation Army Band played a selection and provided the music for the hymns.
