City Council
The month'ly meeting of the Lower Jlutt City Council was held on Monday evening, the .Mayor, Mr. J. W. Andrews presiding. The Wellington Hospital Board wrote asking the Council to facilitate their application the the Loans Board i'or .raising £10,000 for the purpose of>building a new mortuary. The Mil yor said the sum seemed a very large one at the present' time and required some investigation and on the motion of Councillor Campbell it was decided that the Mayor should take the matter up with the Wellington City Council and other local bodies Jt was decided that the City Council would join with the Fire Board in recognising the work of ex-Fireman L. V. Doran, who had resigned after '•>% i years service with the brigade. Permission was granted, subject to the. approval' of the Censorship Committee, for the holding of a Sunday evening concert in August for the benefit of the Ii.S.A. Benevoient Fund. v. It was reported .that no serious damage had been caused to the drains through the earthquake. Councillor Muir asked if the street lights could not 'be restored at corners as it was very dangerous to pedestrians and motorists. Councillor Hay agreed to see what could be done in the matter. It was also pointed out that the rubbish tins outside the shops at night were dangerous in the '"black-out" It was decided to see if some better arrangement could be made with the contractor.
