TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD

At the annual meeting of the Lower Hutt Townswomen's Guild (Federation), the chairman, Mrs. N. W. Benstead congratulated the me|i bers on the amount of variety of .war work carried , out. Approximately £38 for this war work was taken on the "Bring and Buy" stali held at each monthly meeting, and also £22/10/- was collected by means of bridge parties by Mrs S. Murray and Mrs. O. Owen for goods for soldiers' parcels. Work done by the guild with Mrs H. Painter as convenor of the War Service Group, included a large case of quilts and clothing dispatched through the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild to the organising secretary of Townwomen's Guilds in England, sewing and knitting for the Red Cross, knitting for the Patriotic Board, 190 unnamed soldiers' parcels packed and forwarded to Patriotic Board, 18 parcels addressed to husbands and sons of members,, and lastly the making of camouflage nets. The convener's of the groups, Mrs. H. Painter, Mrs Round Jiill and Mrs Owen (War Services), Mrs. H. Poole (sports), Mrs Turner (arts and crafts), Mrs. A. V. Stamp (singing), were presented with floral tokens as a mark of appreciation of their splendid work during the year, by the vice-president, Mrs C. E. Moran, who also presented Mrs G. C. Watson with a trophy as winner of the best flower in the garden competition for the year.
