<S> OFFENSIVE ACTION is called to the large display advertisement on page So this issue with reference to the National Campaign for Bonds for Bombers. The campaign opened in Wellington on Monday and although the opening day was fixed for the whole of the Dominion for Monday, 2 3rd it was decided to make a .special display in Lower Hutt on Friday. March 27th, when endeavours have been made to secure thte R.N.Z.A Band, several military bands, and an exhibition by our Air Force. The display v, ill take the form of a parade throughout the city of Lower Hutt, and then proceed to Petone. Mr. T. N. Smallwood, the chairman of the National Campaign, in a broadcast last Sunday evening, said their leaders were resolutely determined to begin offensive action The national savings campaign supplied a universal channel for the civilian army to help, an outlet for purchasing power to be hurled back into offensive action. Good as the previous effort had been, there was still scope for greater support. The campaign, which was to provide bombers for the Royal New Zealand; Air Force could be a torch that, would light up these dark days. "Let us keep the 'offensive spirit aloft," concluded Mr. Smallwood. Teachers' Support The New Zealand Educational In : stitute has decided to buy £"M>o< worth of bonds for bombers. "This decision represents a collective declaration that the teachers of New Zealand are wholeheartedly supporting the war effort, and is very practical evidence that they fully appreciate'the menace involved in the Japanese threat to the democratic liberties and educational standards of the Dominion," says a statement by the institute. "The institute counts it a privilege to be among the first purchasers of £1000 worth, of these bonds on behalf of teachers collectively and also expresses its confidence that this sum will be multiplied many times over by it? members individually as citizens." Mr. Smallwood also said that individuals, clubs, societies, companies, and other associations could all play their part. The Mayor of Wellington, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, in an address in ■Wellington said: "It must be obvious to everybody that the strength of our Air Force must be a vital factor in our defence of this country, and the danger of the present period needs no emphasizing. Our ability to attack and drive off the enemy depends not only on the spirit of our people, but also on the materials* thsit are placed in the fighting men's hands. In the very forefront of these is the bomber and fighter plane. However many we may have, we can never have too many. The citizens of Hutt Yallev have always been ready to assist patrio tic objects? This Bonds for Bombers Week is not only helping the Dominion but is an investment, J State guaranteed. We are looking forward to a big response from the residents of Lower Hutt. Bonds can be purchased at any Pos! or Bank. All monies received for Bonds for Bombers will be absolutely used for equipment for our Air Force.
