"Tulip Time"

YOUNGER SET BALL brilliant success To celebrate its first anniversary, t the Younger Set of-the Hutt Valley R.S.A., headed by its popular con- • vener, Mrs. R. B. Ashe, embarked gaily on a first big venture, aid • achieved a brilliant success with a I Picturesque "tulip-time" ball held • on Friday night last in the Horticultural Hall, and attended by over ' 450 guests. Already this energetic band of i sons and daughters of returned men from the last war has, through welldirected and enthusiastic efforts, paid £100 into the building fund for 1 new club rooms for the use of men 1 now returning from overseas. To this fund the proceeds of the ball were added. The colourful decorations incorporated the use of masses of tulips, Dutch posters carrying out the theme, and bunting added a patriotic note. Features of the programme were an exhibition ballroom dance and a Dutch ballet by the very small pupils of Miss Heather Wright, and a "Naughty Nineties" ballet by softie of her senior pupils. Before supper, Mr. L. W. Woolley paid tribute to the valuable work done by Mrs. Ashe and the Younger Set, and Mrs. C. J. Ashton, on be--1 half of the R.S.A., presented a sheaf of clove carnations to Mrs. Ashe. Mr. C. J. Ashton, president of the R.S.A., also thanked Mrs. Ashe, who aiterwards cut a birthday cake. Messrs. J. C. Kyle and G. Page were masters of ceremony. A special tribut was paid to Mr. Kyle, who had devoted the whole of a week's leave before going into camp to assist with the work of preparation. Palliser, S. Colbourne, R. Buddie and F. Southee.
