TO HELP THE BABIES

A very successful bazaar, organised by the committee of the TaitaKnox sub-brariclj of the Plunket Society, was held on Saturday afternoon in Knox Qhurch schoolroom.

Mrs. H. Jowett, president of the Wellington Plunket Society, who opened the bazaar, commented on the marked success of the function, which was mainly due to the unity of effort and good team work of the committee, the Mothers' Club aDd the original Taita Society. Each of these three groups was responsible for stocking and staffing the several stalls; the Mothers' Club for the fancy, baby and book stallß, Taita ladies the produce stall, and the committee was in charge of afternoon tea, cake and ice cream stalls. She particularly thanked the Mothers' Club for their enthusiastic assistance and asked for their continued help. Mrs. Jowett extended a cordial invitation to the mothers to visit the Karitane Hospital on open days, and to see the Truby King house and gardens. She also invited them to visit the Plunket room at the Exhibition, where every part of the work, both voluntary and by nurses, could be seen. Mrs. J. W. Andrews, president of the Lower Hutt Plunket Society, also spoke briefly and commended the work done by the Talta-Knox sub-branch. Mrs. Jowett arid Mrs. Andrews were the recipients of lovely shoulder sprays presented by little Colleen Renner. Beautiful roses were arranged on the platform, where afternoon tea was served by Mrs. Coiin Renner and Misses H. Graham and J. Hutcheson. The committee responsible for organising the sale comprised Mrs. F. M. Renner (president), Mrs. H. G. Flux (secretary and treasurer), and Mesdames G. C. Phillips, J. McNaught, Errol Muir, E. A. Carter and Colin Renner. The stalls weer staffed by Mesdames I. Wilson, E. C. Thompson, E. Pussell, E. A. Carter, R. Collier, G. C. Phillips, J. McNaught. Mr. P. M. Renner also assisted.
