PRODUCTION OF MORE VEGETABLES

The stimulation of vegetable production by the utilisation of areas owned by local bodies was discussed at the quarterly meeting of the Hutt Valley Producers' Association, when the opinion was expressed that the market gardeners, who had the experience, facilities, machinery and knowledge to- do so, should be first consulted on any such plan. It was stated that the market gardeners were only too willing to assiest in increasing production, if their co-operation was sought. Advice was read at the meeting from the Government department concerned, that the proposal involving local bodies' assistance was merely tentative and concerned with the production of vegetables suitable for export. The Dominion Council of Commercial Growers would be consulted when the time came to go further with the proposal.
