HUTT VALLEY HOSPITAL
LITTLE INTEREST TAKEN
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
PROTESTS
The apathy being displayed by the Wellington Hospital Board in regard to proceeding with the work of building the hospital in the Hutt Valley was freely discussed at last week's meeting of the Lower Hutt
Chamber of Commerce. It was pointed out that although possession of the properties had been given several months ago, and the ratepayers were bearing the burden of the cost, the board had apparently ceased to interest itself in the matter. The urgent need for a local hospital had been accentuated by the closing of the Knights Road Hospital, which had lately been taken over by the Government and would be used as an obstetric hospital. Members noted with pleasure that at least one of its members, in the person of Mrs. P. Dowse, was seized with the importance of- the matter, and at the last meeting of the board had urged that the Hutt Valley scheme should have precedence over the city scheme as recommended by the Royal Commission. It was decided to write and thank Mrs. Dowse for her interest in the matter. The secretary was instructed io write to the secretary of the Hospital Board asking when it was the board's intention to proceed with the scheme. It is understood that one of the properties is at present being converted into .a temporary military hospital.
