SWIMMING
HUTT VALLEY CLUB
The annual meeting of the Hutt Valley Swimming and Life-savins Club was held last week, Mr. H. E. Edwards occupying the chair. The report showed that the unfavourable weather last season had resulted in a drop in membership, but the standard of swimming had improved. The club carnival nad been a distinct success both from the swimming and the financial point of view. There had been two contests for the Fenwick Memorial Shield, and in both the club had been successful. ,A The individual winner of the Peck harbour race was Mr. R. Kent, a member of the club. The winner of the Wellington Centre men's diving championship was Mr. R. Tuppen, and the 100 yards ladies' freestyle champion was Miss W. Pritchard, both members of the club. The chairman said the Lower Hutt Borough Council had been generous with help to the club, and Mr. N. N. Oldershaw spoke of the assistance given by Mrs. F. Cooper. The balance sheet showed that the year had commenced with a credit of £19/6/5, and closed with a credit of £16/5/11. The gate takings at the carnival were £29/6/6. The following were elected to office: President, Mr. A. T. Duncan; patron, Mr. E. P. Hay; vicepresidents, same as last year; secretary, Mr. N. N. Oldershaw; treasurer, Mr. J. Wasley; medical officers, Drs. H. W. Nash and F. Bolt; auditor, Mr. G. F. Judd; club captain, Mr. H. Warburton; vice-cap-tain, Mr. G. Balfour; delegates to Wellington Centre, Messrs. H. E. Edwards and H. Warburton; polo coach, Mr. G. Balfour; swimming coaches, Messrs. C. Richardson and H. Warburton; ladies' committee, Mrs. F. Cooper and Misses J. Grant and W. Pritchard; men's committee, Messrs. H. E. Edwards, D. A. Wright, J. Aldrich, L. Jenness, .T. Sellars, A. Rogers, C. WatsonMunro, D. Lines and G. McDonald; assistant secretary, Mr. D. Brown; diving coaches, Messrs. T. Greenem and R. T^Epen. Messrs. M Jamieson, H. Wright, fiit.l K Kline were elected life members. The opening day was fixed for November 18. The Mayor; Mr. J. W. Andrews, was invited to perform the opening ceremony, and the j Hon. W. Nash and the chairman of I the Wellington Centre were invited to speak.
