CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
$ The monthly meeting of the Lower Hutt Chamber of Commerce was held last Thursday evening. Mr. A. R. Brooker presided. Messrs. A. J. Gearing and L. V. Phillips were elected as the local representatives to attend the conference of the Associated Chambers of Commerce to be held in Wellington on 15th aqd 16th November. It was decided to ask the Borough Counci to erect the usual coloured lights, etc., at least one week before Christmas. The attention of the Power Board is to be drawn to more frequent cleaning of the community light shades. POST OFFICE. It was decided to write to the member for the district, the Hon. W. Nash, reminding him of the promise which had been given to proceed with the building of the new post office in November. It was pointed out that the necessity "or providing more accommodation was daily becoming more acute and that the staff was working at a great disadvantage. RAILWAY STATION. General Manager of New Zealand Railways drawing attention/- to','' the lack of mechanical lifting;'; appliances at the Hutt Railway Station. It was pointed out that the abseitea of a crane made the handling ot heavy consignments one of extreme difficulty and danger. Surprises-was expressed that such a convenience, which was supplied at many 'Small stations, was not provided fit Lower Hutt.
