The Hutt Valley Boxing Association, in accordance with its policy of giving local talent every opportunity, has matched Mayne Morton, of Lower Hutt, with- John" L. Griffin, of Hawke's Bay, in the professional attraction on the - programme ; which is to be presented at the Labour Ha)]; Petone, on Tuesday, 11th July.
These are two of the rising stars in the. welter-weight -firmament, and there is no doubt that they will supply, all the action that could be desired, as well as plenty of cleveir boxing. •' •.=
Morton, the local bus driver,; has a decision over Benny Leonard, the clever Australian welter-weight, while Billy Parris, who has K.O. wills over some of the best welters in the Dominion, only secured a„ draw with him in their, contest, which was the opening bout of the season at Petone. John L. Griffin, of Hawke's Bay, is a member of one of New Zealand's greatest fighting families. His father, an Australian champion, and his uncle, who has fought in world champion title coti-
tests, will be remembered by the older boxing fans, while the present day followers of the noble art will recall the excellent performances of the popular light-weight young Jim Griffin, who is an elder brother of "jack. Jack has| the exceptional record of being undefeated as an amateur. BOSWELL v. PAGE A six-round preliminary, in addition to other amateur, bouts,- will be provided by Dave Boswell, Petone, tile., former New Zealand amateur middle-weight champion, and Jack ! Page, the Wellington champion. Boswell and Page had a bright and breezy Scrap at Blenheim recently, and both have been awaiting the return.^
