HUTT DEBATING SOCIETY

The Hutt Debating Society held its weekly meeting on the 29th instant, Mr. Collins being in the chair. After listening to a reading from "Fallen Bastion" by Mr. Burrell, the meeting was entertained by a series of impromptu speeches ranging over a very wide selection of subjects. ' These had been provided by Mr. Piper, and, as usual, proved a fairly severe test of members' ability to "go the distance," and incidentally a source of information and amusement to listeners. Next week the second round of the Parliamentary Shield debate, A grade, will be held, the subject being, "That the influence of the modern press is pernicious." The A.M.P. will take the affirmative and the Hutt Club the negative.
