BIRTHDAY MATCH
HUTT v. VICTORIA.
That the attributes of. goodfellowship and kindness were invaluable constituents of the British EmpirS and that nowhere was this more in evidence than among a gathering of was the comment made by Sir Charles Norwood in a complimentary speech to Messrs. W. Hendry and J. S. Keith on the occasion of tne annual birthday match between the Lower Hutt and Victoria clubs on Saturday on the Victoria club's green. At the afternoon .tea adjournment the birthday cake was cut and the hea'lth of the two oldest members was toasted. Messrs. Hendry and Keith suitably responded, expressing appreciation of the goodwill prevailing. Further complimentary remarks were made by Mr. Marcus Marks. The president of the' Victoria club, Mr. Colin Campbell, announced that on 6 of the visitors had donated a loving cup to be carried each year by the visiting team. Pipe music was played- by Piper W, Shannon. The fixture has been arranged to recognise the gooa work of the older members and to emphasise the social side of the game. Splendid games resulted, and, in keeping with the spirit of the occasion, the result was a draw, the score on all boards being level.
