ST. JOHN AMBULANCE BRIGADE

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Hutt Valley Railway Ambulance Division was held at the Workshops last Thursday. Dr. Zohrab gave an interesting talk to members on the "Treatment of injuries on the sports ground," and was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks for his address. Sergeant R. McMullen and Private A. G. Butterfield were appointed representatives on the Railway Queen committee. Arrangements made for members to be on duty at cricket and baseball matches and at the picnic to be held at Hutt Park on 25th March. on the first innings, but failed by 30 runs, being compelled to bat one man short through one of their players not turning out. Church and Wright made a great attempt, to win the game, adding 63 runs for the eighth wicket. Midland batted strongly in their second knock, declaring with 7 down for 130 in an endeavour to get an outright win, and they succeeded in doing this in the last over of the day. Wall and Church were the only Hutt batsmen to make a showing in th© second innings. This game was marred by the consistent appealing indulged in by the Midland players. Because an umpire does not appear to be in the first flight it is hardly cricket for players to embark on a policy of incessant appeals. The Junior A side won from Brooklyn on the first innings. Warnes, Adams, Kennedy and Sullivan returned good scores for the local side in their opening innings, while Turner batted splendidly for 65 not out in the second knock. Brooklyn batted strongly in their second innings, reaching 267 for 5 wickets before declaring. Hutt were left with 200 get get for an outright win, but had only reached 124 for 4 wickets at stumps. The Social side had to battle hard all the afternoon to prevent Institute from getting maximum points. In reply to Institute's great score of 442 t Hutt's first innings closed for 193, Neazor scoring a fine 65 in this kno'ek. Following on Hutt did not begin too well, three wickets falling for 41. Bach, however, held up one end for almost two hours and was chiefly responsible for ruining Institute's chances., Neazor and Andrews both batted well in this innings, wliile Hunt did some invaluable stone-walling late in the Afternoon.

If you're bewildered, bedevilled, besought and beset, We'll tell you how to forgive and forget. You'll laugh till you're tired from morning till dark At the Comedy Picnic to be held at Hutt Park. . If laughter were liquor, you could get very drunk at the Comedy Gala Picnic on ; Saturday next. Plenty of room for prams.
