Mrs. Wm. Smith, of "Paarina," Waterloo Road, left Tor Auckland on Monday to join the "Niagara," sailing on Tuesday, for Vancouver, and will si>end a holiday of about four months with relations in California. Mrs. Smith will be accompanied as far as San Francisco by her brother, Mr. W. H. Gane, who will continue his journey to New York.. Mr. D. J. Quayle, of Te Kuiti, who has been appointed postmaster at Lower Hutt, took over his new duties on Tuesday last. Mr. Quayle is no stranger to Lower Hutt, having acted in a relieving capacity aj. the local post office some years ago.
