WAIWHETU PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION
At the Quarterly General Meeting of the Waiwhetu Progressive Association, held in St. Paul's Hall recently, the President, Mr. W. J. Dredge, welcomed several new members. A reply .from the Railway Department with reference to the late arrival at Wellington of the 7.25 a.m train from Waterloo was discussed, and it was decided to request the Railway Department to arrange for all trains to depart from stations en route at the scheduled time, instead of waiting foliate passengers. The Railway Department was also requested for a Sunday rail service, or as an alternative, a rail car service. The Borough Council is being requested to carry out the following improvements: Pipe the drain which runs from Waikari Avenue to the little Awamutu Stream. Tar-seal all street comers, and Lift curbing in Birdwood Road and Trafalgar Street. The question of the footpath on the western side of Wainui Road was discussed, and it was decided to request the Council to tar-seal the footpath and provide a storm water channel round the front of Mr. Patrick's property. Attention was drawn to the quality and pressure of the gas, and it was decided to request the Gas Board to advise when the new plant will be put into operation. Objection to the statement in the Press by the Chairman of the Gas Board, in connection with the gas supply, was also voiced by members, who maintain that the loan proposal which the ratepayers turned down about four years ago, was defeated on account of the Board proposing' to purchase a plant "which had not been tried out in actual working.
