AMBULANCE FOR fiUTT VALLJEY "Wo are prepared to give youx organisation a fully-equipped ambulance with the body built .to your general specifications, on the understanding that the car is named Thd Hutt Valley Ambulance, that you use it as much as possible at your discretion for the services of the Hutt Valley inhabitants, and that if and when the proposed Hutt Valley hospital is, built, the ambulance is to be used solely for conveying the Hutt Valley patients to and from the hospital," stated a letter received by -the .Wellington Free Ambulance Board .from General Motom Limited this morning. The letter also stated that it was ■realised that a spccial Hutt Valley ambulance with the use restricted to the service of the inhabitants of the district might prove an expensive liability instead of a benefit. "There is no doubt that this is a very handsome donation to our organisation," said the acting chairman of the board, Mr. D. J. McGowan. "Not only should we accept, but we should accept with gratitude," said Mr. G. Mitchell. The chairman thought it would be advisable to submit to the donors a suggestion to the effect that inside the ambulance some acknowledgement such as "This ambulance has been presented by General Motors Limited for use, wherever possible, by Hutt Valley residents when required" should be placed. "That means that outside it w : appear just like one of our own ambulances," said Colonel Mitchell. Mr. 0. H. Chapman thought it was an example that might very well be .followed by .other firms in recognition of the good work the ambulance service .Was doing. It was decided to accept the offer and write to the donors expressing the great appreciation of the board.
