HUTT RUGBY CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING There was a large attendance at the annual meeting of the Hutt Rugby Club held in the gymnasium on 9th inst. Major J. T. King presided. Twenty-nine new inembefls were elected. Speaking to the report the chairman said that although the Hutt team had not won the championships the Club's real strength was in the aggregate wins and in this it had been sccond to Petone which he considered was very satisfactory. The following officers were elected— President, Sir Alex. Roberts; vicepresidents, all re-elected with the addition of Messrs. M. Roach, D. Williams, and W. Fitzgerald; club captain, Mr. C. Slater; vice club captain, Mr. R, Wickhain; hon. secretary, Mr. C. W. Dudding; hon. treasurer, Mr. H. Skilton; hon. assistant secretary, Mr. H. Julian; hon. solicitor, Mr. Ashley Duncan; hon. auditors, Messrs. L. Grant and R, D. Smith; delegates to W.R.F.U., Major J. T. King, H. E. | McOßain, and C. Slater; management committee, Messrs. E. Markland, H. E. McOßain, W. Wilson, F. and JR.. J. Feeney, G-. Roberts, E. T. Barry, T. Denlby , and A. Hansen. In nominating Mr. Dudding for the position of secretary, a position 'he has held for many years, the chairman,of the management committee, Mr. H. E. Moßain, said that as one who had worked 111 close conjunction with Mr. Dudding ho could say that he was most efficient in every way. It did not matter what information was required the secretary was always able to supply it. He had the affairs of the elub at his finger-tips. Major King said that Mr. Dudding was probably the most efficient secretary in New Zealand. He set a standard for secretaries in. the W.R.F.U. and this was recognised by every member of the Union. The chairman stated that the W.R.F.U. would be considering remits from cliibs proposing the albolition of the senior B grade and limiting seniors to sixteen teams, divided into first and' second divisions, The idea was that there were too many seniors, and the proposal was to make it harder to attain senior Tank. The abolition of B grade would, however, press upon clubs whose members would not grade up to senior A standard. • The club decided to oppose the abolition of the senior B grade. Mr. Hilton, who retired from- the management committco was thanked by Mr. Mcßain for his services during the year. . : The chairman presented the follow- •> ing trophies:—Nicholson Cup, for most improved player in the senior fifteen, ,D. F. Polter; Shine Cup 1 , most improved back in senior fifteen, E. T. Kilmister; Piatt Cup, for the player who had done the (best work ifor the junior fifteen, S. J. Hobbs; Cup, most improved back in fifteen, H. J. Marsden; Skilton Cup, most improved player in third grade, A. 0. McMullen; Chairman's and Deputy Chairman's Cup, for the third grade, A. Charlton; Shine Cup, most improved back in fifth grade, N. Pearce; Pearce Cup most improved player in fifth grade, A. F. Bramley; Fraser Cup, most improved player in sixth grade, R. Weir.
