CORRESPONDENCE
»Sir, —Could you tell ine if the Fair Rents Restrictions Act has any application in regard to houses owned or administered by the Public Trust O.ffltee? I lhave Ibeen in search of a house in iLower Hutt for the past four months and an willing to pay a fair rental, even in excess of what is generally considered a fair proportion of my income. In one o,f the daily .papers I saw, a house in Ariki street pdvertised to rent, on making application, I was told to put in> an offer. I hid 32/6 and was told to call again, jrhis I. did and was told that my offer jhad ibeeli exceeded so I increased my offer to 35/-. Again I increased the .bidding to 37/6 and at 38/0 I retired when I (was told I would have to bid over £2 to &secure this desirable home. It seems sitrange to mo that a State service should; adopt this method of extracting the maximum rental for workers' homes.—l am etc., f HOMEBEEKEB,
