TAITA WOMEN'S INSTITUTE.

BIRTHDAY PARTY. There was an excellent attendance of members at the third birthday party of the Taita Women's Institute. The Federation president and executive officers were welcomed', and also a large number of visitors from sister Institutes. The stage and tables were tastefully decorated with spring flowers; a feature being wall brackets of marigolds and Iceland poppies. The three-tier birthday cake, which had been made and iced by Mrs. Tate, who later assisted the president to cut it and distribute favours to each member was greatly admired. The programme was opened by the leader of the madrigal circle, Mrs. Dawson, who sang iu her usual charming style "Many Happy Returns of the Day." There was also a piano plo, Mrs. West bury; piano duct, Mesdames Lietoezeit and Taylor; piano duo, Mesdames Westbury and Toms; duets, Mesdames kSwift and Hyndman, and Rait and Laws; and several items by the choir, who later led the community singing. The most original fancy dress was won by Mrs. Dyer with Mrs. Young second.
