Chamber of Commerce MONTHLY MEETING.
The monthly executive meeting of the Lower Hutt Chamber o,f Commerce was held c<n Wednesday evening, Mr. J. M. Carlson presiding. The secretary tabled a copy of the Chamber's constitution and rules which were referred to a subcommittee foT examination.
A letter was received from the Town Clerk in reference to 'the question raised at the last meeting regarding the local taxi service and advising that the Chamber would 'be advised when further information was received from the Transport Department. Christmas Shopping, A sub-committee was set up to report at the next meeting on the possibilities of reviving the industrial exhibition.. It was decided to consider the question of Christmas shopping at the next meeting. General Meeting. ' The secretary was instructed to endeavour to make arrangements for a speaker at the next general meeting which will probably be held in September. Police Control. The icreasing number of burglaries and the apparent failure of the police to curtail their activities was referred to. It was decided to bring the matter under the notice of 'the Borough Council suggesting that they should communicate with the Department of Justice an'di recommend an increase in the local police force until the nuisance was abated. Community Lighting. Attention was drawn to the fact that the arrangements with the Hutt Valley Power Board for community lighting 'had expired some years ago and a sub-icommittee was set up to go fully into the matter and report to the next meeting. The opinion was freely expressed that the charges of community lighting were excessive. Cr. Eussell attended and gave some interesting facts on borough development.
