WOBURN BOWLING CLUB.
Bowlers who attended the opening of the Woburn Club on Saturday afternoon were loud in their praises of the excellent state of the gree.ni and enjoyed a delightful afternoon's play.
The president, Mr. H. H. Johnston, extended a warm welcome to the members, new members and visitors and briefly reviewed the winter's social activities of the Club. He made reference to the great loss the Club had sustained since last season in the death of its secretary, Mr. H. Mulholland, and paid a tribute to his successor, Mr. G. J. Blackmore who was carrying out the duties in a most efficient manner. Mr. Johnston complimented the green committee upon the excellent state of the greens which he did not think could be surpassed in the town district. He also tendered his personal thanks to tho ladies of the croquet section for decorating the tables and attending to the tea arrangements. Mr. Johnston was accompanied by his daughters-in-law, Mesdames A. J. and l W. D. Johnston, who threw up the first kitty and bowl respectively and together with the Mayoress, Mrs. J. W. Andrews, were each presented with bouquets by Mrs. W. G. Alexander.
Tho opening ceremony vras performed by the Mayor, Mr. J. W. Andrews, who complimented the officers of the 'Club and the greenkeeper, Mr. Langford, on the excellent state of the grounds which had been .formed out of a very rough section. He wished the Club a very succcssful season. The visitors and members were the guests of the president at afternoon tea served in the pavilion, the tables being beautifully decorated with large vases of flowers in the Club's colours o,f red, blue and gold.
