BELMONT LABOUR PARTY.
The first anniversary of the formation of the Belmont branch of the New Zealand Labour Party was hel'di recently at the Men's iClub Hall and was a highly successful function, many friends and members o,f the Party being present. The IST.Z. Labour Party was Teiprbsented by the president, Jiev. Clyde Carr, M.l\, unci the Otaki L.K.C. by Mr. Scott Uanisay (chairman), and Mr. Shearer (secretary). Also present were representatives from ..local branches. The chairman of the branch, Mr. iChiv'ers, extended a hearty welcome to all present and in a brief speech outlined the activities of the branch.
A thoroughly enjoyable programme interspersed with dances was then presented) toy the following: Misses Alsop and Dixon, and Messrs. Dixon, Evans, Fordie and Payne. Especially appreciated were the eccentric and acrobatic dances given by Miss Heather Wright, champion of New Zealand. Music iur -lire dancing was contributed by Messrs. Tulloch, Cooper and others. Two surprise humorous elocutionary items by the Rev. Clyde Carr added to the enjoyment of the programme.
After a dainty supper was served the beautiful birthday cake, decorated with one candle and a kewpie dressed in the Labour Party's colours', was cut by Mr. Carr, who, in a highly eulogistic speech, wished the branch every success iii the future. Flowers were presented to Mrs. Scott Ramsay, Mrs. Shearer and Mrs. Chivers and the party then proceeded with dancing >nd items. The arrangements for this party were ably carried' out by a sub-committee consisting of Mescalines Cathro and Bennett and Messrs. Alsop and McKay. Mr. McKay acted as M.C. in a most efficient manner.
