Some leaders may bo interested! to know that I have just received a letter from Mr. J, N. v Little, lately school teaching in this district, and for some time Oubmaster at Taita "Kiwi" Group. He is now at the Manatahi State School, Kuatoria, cm the East iCoast, and writes to say that has a Troop going, numbering 24 boys, 14 of whom axe Maoris. He suggests that Dominion Headquarters would 'be surprised if they received an order for 14 "Oratcipiotei Badges! He states further that 'the movement is proving a great success aud there are the right 1 type of men to back it up, which is most important. There are very few of the boyß who have no Alaori blood in them, in the Troop- Tliu onl / P Mauri Troop of which J have any knowledge was that which Air. Zambra (''Kata") started at Otaki Maori College some years ago. The til. Augusliiio Group entertained theiu one Labour weekend ,aiid found them to be line Scouts. Their Dt'ii was most attractive, and their out-door Scouting was excellent. I believe now, although I am not quite certain on this point, that they have been taken over by the | "Pakeha" group in Otaki, owing to there toeing no Scouter at the College.
I wonder . how many Scouts in our district Teadi the "Scout," •the official weekly magazine of our movement, founded by the Chief Scout, and containing an article by him in each issue! TEe stories in it are 'jolly good,
there are notes of happenings all over the Scout world, including N.Z., and valuable articles on subjects such as camping, hiking, displays, patrol-wwk, training, etc. In addition a good story. It costs 4d a week, and you get your money's worth! Any chap who is keen should) read the Scout. I generally find that the best Scoirti I know are "Scout" readers. "Null sedl" How about it? Your bookseller will get it for you. MYSELF AND I.
"I have to live with mysuf, and so, I want to be fit for myself to know. I want to be able, as days go bj, Always to look myself in the eye. I don't want to stand *wit!i the set'
ting sun, And hate myself for the things I've
done, I want to go out with my head erect, I want to deserve all men's respect; And here be the struggle for fame and pelf. I want to be able to like myself. I don't want to look at myself oud know. That I'm bluster, and bluff, and empty show, I see what others may never see, I know what others may never know."
