Y.M.C.A.

LADIES' AUXILIARY. Despite most unpleasant weather many ladies were present recently at the Y.M.C.A. rooms, Cuba Street, Pctono, to hear Mrs. H. W. Kersley talk on "Adventures in the Kitchen." In welcoming the guests, the president, Mrs. J. D. King, gave a brief outline of the work of the Ladies' Auxiliary and later in the afternoon the general secretary, Mr. A. Edwards was afforded an opportunity of describing the activities of the boys, the meetings, the divisions of the various groups, the exercises for spiritual and physical training, and their method of coping with the boy unemployment problem bo acute a year or two ago. Adding to tho decorations of the room, was an attractive display of preserves, sauces, etc., made and arranged by Mrs. Kersley, who described the articles in turn, stressing the advantage of bottling fruits, vegetables, mint sauce otc. in season. The recipes to correspond were later sold, and Mrs. Kersley generously donated the dishes for sale. ' In expressing the Auxiliary's gratitude to the speaker, the president made mention of the fact that Mrs. Kersley had been foundation president of the Wellington Y.M.C.A. Auxiliary some years ago and also foundation president of the Hutt Valley Auxiliary. Mrs. R. Millward and Mrs. A. Miller added pleasure to the afternoon with vocal and elocutionary items respectively. A greatly appreicatcd tea was served under the direction of Mrs. John.
