WOBURN CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. 11 j The eighth annual meeting of the Woburn Bowling Club was held June 29, Mr. W. H. Johnston presiding over an attendance of 36 members. , Before taking the ordinary business, of the meeting, the president made feeling reference to the loss the club has sustained in the death of its secretary, Mr. H. J. Mulholland, all present standing in silence as a tribute to his memory. In moving the adoption of the report, the president .gave a, resume of the club's activities during the yeaT and stated that the affairs were in a most satisfactory condition. He-thank-ed members generally and the Social and Tea Committees in particular, for the manner in which they had supported him during his term of office and worked in the interests of the club. The Hon. Auditor, Mr. Overend, was thanked. foT his services in taking over the position to fill the breach. The treasurer's statement showed an excess of income over expenditure of £7 2s Bd. It was decided to again have the telephone installed to coincide with the opening of the season. After a full discussion, it was decided that in order to place the club in a sounder financial position the annual bowling subscription be raised to £4 reducible to £3 10s if paid by Ist December. A letter was received from the secretary of the croquet section inviting bowler's wives to attend bridge and "500" afternoons in the pavilion each alternate Thursday. The president unveiled an enlarged photograph of Mr. J. W. Jones, a past president. In thanking Mr. Jones for presenting it to the flub, Mr. Johnston expressed the hope that others would follow the example and adorn the walls of the club-house with their portraits. After considerable discussion it was decided to appoint a sole selector, the amendment, to appoint a committee of two being defeated. The selector was invited to arrange for the names of teams to be published in the Press. At the request of the Match Committee, it was agreed that the Management Committee draw up regulations for their guidance in connection with the control of matches.

It was deeidcd that all entrants for club rinks be graded and that the teams be drawn by ballot.

The arrangement of Pennant games Was left for the Management Committee to arrange.

, It was decided to request the incoming Management Committee to meet representatives frc<m other Valley clubs with a view to having definite rules drawn up and printed, governing the play and management of the Hutt Valley Easter Inter-Club competitions and each club to have a copy of these rules exhibited in the pavilion.

Trophies presented to the winners of the club's competitions were as .follows:—iSnr. singles and Wilfred Cup, ' Mr. J. Tamblyn. Jnr. singles and Jnr. i Cup, Mr. A. H. Parsons. Champion pairs and Taylor Cups, Messrs. G. De lifford and J. W. Jones (s). Champion Kink and August Brothers Cup, Messrs. A. Overend, A. H. Parsons, E. Mcintosh and J. E. August (s). The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr. M. C. Rowe; president, Mr. W. H. Johnston; vicepresidents, Hon. W. aNsh, M.P. Messrs. J. W. Andrews and W. T. Strand; Hon. secretary, Mr. G. S. J. Blackmore; Hon. treasurer, Mr. P. Roberts; Hon. auditor, Mr. A. Overend; delegate to centre, Mr. J. Forsyth; dub coach, Mr. J. W. Jones, publicity officer, Mr. F. Ching; Management Committee, Messrs. J. E. August, G. H. Bradley, J. Forsyth, J. Cr. Hansen, J. L. Leydon, G F. Martin, W. J. Perkins; sole selector, Mr. J. W,. Jones; match committee, Messrs. J. G. ■Hansen, P. P. Orviss and A. Overend. The annual report stated that the season was opened on Saturday, October 12, and closed for play on Tuesday, April 14, 1936. The membership at the close season is made up of 58 activc and 1 life bowling members, with 16 activc and 1 honorary croquet members. Obituary, It is with deepest and most sincere regret, states the report, that we have to record the death of our late genial and respected secretary, Mr. 11. J. Mulholland, who passed away during the early part of this year after a prolonged illness.' Mr. Mulholland held .the respective offices of president and treasurer and was also a foundation member of the .club. The cluib has indeed lost a very valued member and our sympathies go out to iiis widow and family in their sad bereavement.

Senior Pennant. The club entered one team of four rinks and finished up in fourth place in its scction with four points in credit. All games were very closely contested. Junior Pennant. Owing to the increase in membership two rinlts for this competition were entered. The "A" team gained 3 wins and "B" team 3 wins. Mid-week Competition. Two rinks were regularly played during the season. There were 15 games played, cut of which 8 were won.

Friendly Gaines. Thanks arc due to the various clubs who provided so many enjoyable games which enabled our players to fraternise with other bowlers on their greens, thus gaining practical experience in variations of play and' conditions of ,greens. Our average wins were approximately fifty per cent. During the season, four rinks of our mid-week players journeyed to Paraparaumu and played a friendly match against this club. The matches were ' well contested and very much enjoyed. Champion of Cliampions. The club was represented by its champions as follows:—Mr. A. Overend I in the singles; Messrs. G.' De Clifford 'and'J. W. Jones (s) in the pairs; and Messrs. Overend, A. H. Parson, Mcintosh and J. E. August (s) as our champion rink. !• . Hutt Var.ey Banner. 1 Seven rinks were entered for these inter-club games in which every available member participated. ! Club Competitions. Although well supported many games were un.played, doubtless due to a rather lengthy programme of official 'events. Towards the end of the season, several rounds of progressive pairs were arranged' and greatly enjoyed by the participants.
