j Despite the unfavourable weather ' conditions without, warm and cheerful j atmosphere prevailed on Tuesday !ast which, with its cheery log iires, glowing radiators and tasteful floral decorationlin autumn shades offered every com- ' fort to the large and enti#usiastic ga- ' thering who attended the Bridge Party ' organised by Mrs J. N. O'Shea, the 1 president of the St. Viujent de Paul ' Society's Sewing Guild, in aid of the Society's funds. The party proved to be both socially and financially a very great success aud the president and members of the Guild wish to sincerely thank all wso helped in any way aud were pleased to extend a welcome to ilie Mayoress (Mrs. J. W. Andrews), Mrs Walter Nash, Mrs John Mitchell (president Red Cross Society), Mrs Von Zedlitz (president Plunket Society). The first prize for Bridge, a handsome crystal vase donated by Murray's ' china shop, was won by Mrs Lindsay Gilmour; the second prize donated by R. Y. Shearer Ltd., a beuty compact, being won by Mrs F. C. Carters 1 ; tho hidden number, a box of stationery, going to Mrs F. Parker. The first prize for "500" a book donated by Mrs Avan Davies, was won by Mrs Foster, while xhe second pme a box of toilet soap donated by Carcy'x was won by Mrs Cotterill. During the afternoon a guessing competition was held and the winner proved to be Mrs Cox, this being donated by the Self-Htlp. A delectable afternoon tea was served by the ladies of the Guili and assisted ; by the senior pupils o:' the Sacred Heart College, who carried out their duties very efficiently.
