HAYDN COMPETITION

LOCAL SUCCESSES.

Tiwenty-six students took part in the Haydn Competition held in Wellington last Friday evening. The competition embraced three classes—pianoforte, violin and vocal —fbut the contest was treated as a .single whole, prizes not being awarded to each section". The winner was Miss Evelyn Robinson, who gained 90 points with her singing of "The Spirit Song," and won the Haydn medal. /The second place was awarded to Miss Judith Giesen, also a Hutt resident, who played the piano forte Sonata in D, securing 90 points in a tie with Miss Gladys Webb who sang *' How Pleasing to the Senses." Miss Farncis Reveirs secured 87 points for her playing of Sonata in E Flat (piano).

The judge was Mr Ernest Jenner, and the accompanist Miss Zell O'Kane.
