Women's Institutes are nothing if not -versatile, in fact, therein lies much of the fascination of Institute work. There is no time at an Institute meeting for scandal as some fondly suppose, but a good cup of tea is a feature of each afternoon. At the last, meeting of the Stokes Valley Women's Institute this versatility was well .exemplified. Members withartistic taste and skill were soen. busily, at1 work, under the tuition of Mrs., Bha.T&zyn, assisted by Mesdamos Huse and Fentqn, decorating boxes with Barbola work and even tiiose whose talents lie in other directions . found themselves drawn to this attractive art., •
The useful side of life -and incidentally the ingenuity of members was shown in a competition fox the best ' 'Homo-made Household Article.' '■- The übiquitous sugar bag :made its appearance in various guises, kerosene cases and tins became seats and coal"Tjoxcs, "but the prize went to a brush made by Mrs Williamson from part of a kerosene ease and the hair from a horse's tail.
Mrs. Hawthorn, the President, announced that it was hoped to form a circle of the League of Mothers within the .Institute, thus widening its interests and also that a donation towards the maternity bag^ had .been received from Mrs. Cottle. . G-reat interest was shown in a letter received froan a Hpme Institute with which a correspondence is being established. :.•■-■ New nieniibers continue to join in very satisfactory numbers; Afternqon tea was dispensed toy Mrs Fenton and votes of thanks .to Mrs. Pharazvn and the -hostess closed the'
