AMATEUR ATHLETICS
Next Monday week will see a start made with the weekly club races which were so popular with members last season. This scribe has received a copy of the programme for the first two meetings. Seven events will be decided each evening, commencing at 6.30 a.m—an hour which should suit everyone. Following are the events for the first two meetings:—
Monday, stli, November.—7s Yards Ladies, 75 Yards Junior, 75 Yards Senior, 880 Yards, One Mile, Cycle, 50 Yards Juvenile B Grade, ,75 Yards Juvenile A Grade.
Monday, 12th November. —100 Yards Ladies, 100 Yards Junior, 120 Yards Senior, One Mile, Half Mile Cycle, 75 Yards Juvenile B. Grade, 100 Yards Juvenile A. Grade.
Several members were having a "pipe opener" at the Labour Day Sports'on Monday, but at the time of writing no results are to hand.
So far as can be ascertained at present most of last year's members will again be out. New members include.J. McHolm, champion "lead swinger and* pea thrower,'' J. Cunningham, champion 440 yards runner from the Wellington club, A. Hall cyclist from Petone, and Jarrett, a cyclist from Hawera. Gordon Bayne, Three Mile Provincial Champion, who although a member last year was registered with Wellington Club, has decided to register" and become a full-blown member' of the Lower Hutt Club this year.
