SOCIAL NOTES

A most enjoyable pftevnoon was spent at the residence of Mrs. Pegler, Leighton Avenue, Lower Hutt on August 29th. The function was .held, with the object of raising funds for the White's Line Church of England. Afternoon tea was provided by the hostess, and much amusement was caused with the various competitions. Beautiful spring flowers were given by Mrs. C. B. Robinson, which found a ready sale; also eggs from the some donor and Mis. Pegler. Mrs Whiteman also donated a cake, which waa "Dutch", auctioned with keen competition from several ladies. Mrs H. E. Leighton sang a set of three delightful songs. Mrs Joyce sang the '' Rosary and gave an original recitation, while little Beryl Edmonds recited prettily. Among those present were Mesdames Corner, Edwards, Edmonds, Gardner, TTar.sell, Joyce, Leighton, Oppenheim (Wellington), Robinson, Stewart (Wellington), Scholes, Thompson and Whiteman. The
