EDUCATION MATTERS
OF CONCEBN" TO THE HUTT VALLEY.
A strong plea was made at this week's meeting of the Wellington Board of Education by Mr Stonehouse for a grant sufficient to provide for the drainage and reclamation of the wniwetu school grounds. Mr Stonehou:->e • defending the Board who would have made a more satisfactory arrange in ov.t for the Waiwetu school area thought the Department should bear the '-I'M re- ; spcnsibility for its mistake and make the grounds suitable for school use. The Board decided to make further xcpre-" sentation to the Department and at the same time press the claims of Wilford foehool as suggested by Mr London. It was intimated that the Dopa.-tmeiit had made a grant for the purchase of a school site on Randwick Road. A protest was registered on the motion of Mr London at the refusal to pTovide a septic tank at the Wainui-o-mata school and it was decided to urge reconsideration of the matter. The suggestion made by the Waiwetu School Committee to extend its boundaries to include the Moera District, was held over for further consideration. Work approved by the Works and Finance Committee included improvements to the school grounds and, eon- ] venienees at the Petone West School, renewals the shelter shed at Taita, regrading' portion of the Jluritai playground, to recommend the addition for the infant school at the Upper Hutt, and further accommodation at Taita. It was decided to recommend the. sale to the Hutt Borough Council of a section required foT the new Hutt River Bridge approach.
