HUTT VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL.

The monthly meeting of the Board of" Governors of the Hwtt Valley High School was held last Friday eveningThere were present Mr. H. G. Teagle presiding, Messrs H. Baldwin, Callendeiy. Grjmwood, Stonehouse and H. P. Kidson. (principal). Mr. E. P.Bishworth was granted extended leave of absence on account of ill health. On the motion of Mr. Grinwood Mr Teagle was elected acting chairman during Mr. Rishworth's absence. Tii<? chairman welcomed Mr. J. Stonehouse, the newly elected member, to theBoard. Mr. Stonehouse suitably replied— -Apologies for non-attendance were received from Messrs London and Hut'anjtn/»e. The sub-committee set up to bring down recommendations for the spending of the money received from the proceeds of the Easter Gala reported as follows:- — Preparing of football grounds, building; dressing sheds, and purchase of horse roller, any surplus to be spent on improving the school grounds. On the motion of Messrs Grimwood and Baldwin. the committee's report was adopted. On the motion of Messrs Callender and Baldwin it was decided to accept thetender of Mr. Dawson of £10 10/- for supply and fitting electric school bell. Messrs Edmeades and Macaskill wrote offering to donate a lawn mower for the cricket pitches. The chairman remarked on the generosity of the donors and moved that the offer be accepted with thanks. Carried. The recommendation of the grounds committee that certain drains be laid jn the school grounds was adopted. Sub-committees were set up to deal with tenders for building of dressing shed and tarring of tennis courts. Mr. Kidson drew attention to the fact that the school building was not weather proof during the recent storms, the rain.had not only beaten in between the window frames but had percolated through^ the walls to such an extent that the cori ridors had been flooded. The Principal's 1 action in bringing the matter under the notice of the Education Department was endorsed. On the motion of Mr. Stonehouse the chairman and secretary wereempowered to take what action they thought fit.

The balance sect to 14th August showed a credit balance at the Bank of £594 9/7.
