FIRE AT NAI NAI.

Last Thursday afternoon the local fire brigade was summoned to a fire in a five roomed house occupied by Mi-. Hay in Nai Nai Lane. When the brigade arrived on the scene it was found to be a difficult proposition as the strong no; - therly wind fanned the flames and tl:o water supply was very limited. As the district is not served with a high pressure water supply a small ditch clo by had to be dammed up and it was with the greatest difficulty that a supply of water .could be maintained. The house was. totally destroyed. It reflects great credit on Capt. Slinn and his men that they were able to prevent the flames spreading to the outbuildings and adjacent homes in the face of such a. strong northerly wind.

Last Sunday night the brigade were called' out hy a false alarm in Victoria Street.
