HOCKEY CLUB'S CONCERT.

King George Theatre was well filled last Monday evening on the occasion of the Petone Benefit Entertainers' Concert on behalf of the Hutt Valley Hockey Club's Accident Fund.

» The Entertainers produce as a rule a - most enjoyable programme, and on this . occasion they were well up to standard. i, A particularly fine orchestra rendered items at intervals, and added much to -the pleasure of the evening. The Entertainers are indeed fortunate in the ■ possession of such a talented band of musicians. The company has gone to much expense in procuring new scenery whicn adds a very professional touch to their performances, while the lighting effects and stage management reflect a great deal of credit on the organisers. The Club is indebted to the Hutt Capmet Ooy., for the loan of stage.furniture. Probably the most popular items on the programme were the concerted numbers, where the tuneful singing and graceful steps received much well-de-served praise. In "A Brand New Hero" and'"Down Up" Messrs Dick Millward and J. Hickey showed to advantage, while the "Village Fire Brigade '' was a well-received change from the usual group number. A most original ballet number was "Look in the Mirror," the solo being taken by Miss Leone Wright. The audience appreciated both the novelty of the performance and the tuneful music, the flicking mirrors causing not a little amusement. Among the other musical numbers by the company where the men's voices are still predominant, were a pretty • opening to the second part of the programme, '' The Fair," " Here Comes Spring Time,' 'and a well thought out finale. . Violin solo's" were contributed by Miss Arrowsmith, sketches by • the everamusing Chas. Burridge, as well as comic songs, the three spinsters, certainly looked the part and sang it well. Among the dramatic items was a sketch by Mr. Barton Ginger, Service's '' The Parson's Son which was much appreciated. Three sketches helped to lend variety to the entertainment, and were wU producd, if somewhat lacking in plot. The '' star turn of the evening, ac- < I cording to. most of the* audience, was : the dancing by Miss K. Boyle and Les ! Bradley, who gave to their performance that finish which is seldom seen outside the ranks of professional dancers. Their harmony is remarkable, and the. audience scarcely breathed during the whole act. Taken altogether the programme -s , well up to the high standard that these talented performers have set for themselves, and we hope to have an opportunity of seeing them again in the near , f utulre. . <
