Lower Hutt Miniature Rifle Club.
The above club has just completed a very successful season. Team shooting has been of a very high order—the A grade, which was captained by Mr. H. H. Morris, has not been defeated since the club was formed. This year the competition was very keenly contested, two teams, the Public Service and Hutt, going right through to the final without a loss. The final, which created great enthusiasm, ended in a win for Hutt. Five of this team capped the year's success by winning the N.Z. Teams Match. The B grade, captained by Mr. J. Cave, shot consistently throughout the season, and qualifying for the finals, in which they tied with three other teams. In the shoot-off they twice made scores equal to A grade shooting, and won all three matches. For the first time in its history, the club entered a C grade team under the captaincy of Mr. H. V. Westbury. This team did itself great credit by winning the C grade shield. Good work was done by the individual members of the club. Mr. L. Hare, with a very creditable performance, won the individual championship of New Zealand; Mr. H. H. Morris, with an aggregate of 69 out of a possible of 70, won the A grade interclub medal. Two cups, presented by the captain, Mr. H. H. Morris, were competed for monthly, and were held by Messrs. P. B. Goldfinch, L. Hare, and O. Ching. Two gold medals were donated by Mr. H. V. Westbury for the highest aggregate in inter-club shooting, B and C grades. The C grade medal was won by Mr. C. Lambert. The B grade results are not yet available. The following gained representative honours: H. H. Morris, P. B. Goldfinch, F. Kershaw, F. Ching, O. Ching, E. M. Bish, L. Hare and R. Hare. The club championship was won by P. B. Goldfinch, L. Hare being runnerup, and O. Ching third. The B grade Handicap aggregate and Strand Cup was won by J. Ross off scratch, C. Palmer being runner-up and H. V. Westbury third. The B and C grade teams are indebted to Mr. F. W. Ching for his valuable services as coach, and to his expert tuition the success of these teams is in a large measure due.
