A concert in aid of the building fund of the Presbyterian Church, which is now fast approaching completion, will take place in the Pnkeroa Hall on Thurcday evening next. As it is desirable that the building should be opened free of debt a good attendance is looked for. The secretary of (he Auckland Accli- ! m itisation Society notified that licenses to fish for trout within the boundaries of | the county can be obtained from Mr W. jA. Williams, for a fee of 10s. Tins week's Government Gazette contains particulars of certain town, suburban and rural sections in Rotorua which will Ijo offered for lease by public auction on January 21st, at the Courthouse here. The conditions of lease are similar to those of last year. Messrs John I. Philips and Co., mining engineers, Auckland, have just issued a circular addressed to the directors of the various gold mining companies offering inducements in regard to the periodical inspection of their properties which can scarcely fail to command attention.
A mass meeting will take place on the Pukeroa Reserve on Wednesday afternoon next for the purpose of affording the public an opportunity for discussing the present condition of the liceusinglaw in view of the forthcoming election. Messrs Brent, Reed and Seddon are the conveners.

Yaudour, and her agent, Mr Martin Haurwitz, and '.lie party toolc up their quarters at Brent's Bathgate House. Mr Ilaurwitz went on to Auckland yesterday morning for the purpose of arranging for a short series of concerts to begin about December Ttli: The first open-air concert of the season took place in the Sanatorium grounds last night, when there was a large and highly appreciative audience. The Brass Band turned out in full force, and after playing two or three of their choicest selections Dr Ginders, who presided, made' a few appropriate inaugural remarks. A very attractive programme was (hen most, efficiently .carried out, Mrs Wilson, and Messrs Williams, Cross (2) Samson, Mayes and Holmes taking part, and the Band playing at intervals. Pressure on our space forbids a more extended notice. At the meeting of the Crown Lands Board hold in Auckland 011 Tuesday last (according to the Ilertild report) an application was received for an hotel site sit Waiotapu Valley from Messrs liuss'ell and Campbell, on behalf of Mr Nelson. Messrs' Mackenchnic and Nicholson, acting for Mr Nathan, produced a telegram from the Surveyor - General recommending that lease be granted under section 242. Resolved to recommend granting lease' under section 242, lease for 30 years, area seven acres, rent £l2 for 14 years, £24 for 12, and £IS for 12 years, with right of renewal for an additional 27 years, etc. At the commencement of the tourist season it is interesting to note the amount of money expended locally by the hotels here since their amalgamation. The gross amount is £3,350 15s 2d expended in wages an 1 labor, groceries, vegetables, meat,, poultry, firewood cartage and so on. The period covered by these figures does not extend over a full year, as it is only recently that two of the hotels have come under the same control. During the next twelve months it ,is expected that the sum expended locally by these' houses will amount to considerably over £o,ooo'.
The Usrial monthly sittings of the S.M. Court took place on Friday last, Lieut. - Col. Roberts presiding, when the following cases were disposed ofJames Head v. Robert Scott. This was an assault case and although the defendant admitted striking the plaintiff the evidence went to show that if was under considerable provocation. A srood deal of time was occupied m the hearing and the case was eventually dismissed. On the civil side Alifa Wi Karaka proceeded against W. Corbett for ±','3, damage to dray axle. Judgment was given for defendant with costs £l (is fid. C. Birss sued three natives fori] 12s for use of buggy and dr. inn go to harness.
