WINING.

- . . .1 _ I il. I The Wnitt?Jiga.correspon»ieni curae Auckland Star ba» the following concerning the special claims uken ,i]i by Mr J. H. Taylor near that „l acQ ;_'•• Mining in thfs district is bumming. Mr J. H. Taylor has severaj prospectors at work in Knimarama and has lately taken up two more special claims, viz. Great Marlow and Little Marlow, where miners found excellent surface quartz. lam informed by Mr Taylor that he IIo P OS in two or three weeks from now to find the reef. If found to be as o-ood as the surface quartz to hand it .will be ve-y valuable, I saw some very rich prospects in the dish. The •trend of the Kapai Vermont lode .which runs nearly north and south, evidently runs to the western side of M.ars, Whiiianga, Rata, on Syndicate. Special Chums No 3, Kuaoiunu, taken jup by the J. H. Taylor syndicate. Apparently some of tho belt of auriferiou's country ruus across Kaironrnma and Mah,.kirau where J. H. Taylor's syndicate also extends, and .adjacent or adjoining Mr L. D Nathan's, which claims are vigorously and systematically prospected with over 20" men. I may say the same .class of country and quartz is found on a loftv mountain in Kuaotunu JNo. 3, which is considered by ajl miners ito .be first slass for prospecting.

The sum of £250 was received by cable on the '3th instant says the Star by Messrs John I. Phillips and Co., mining engineers, from one of the largest iiuaiicial corporations in Scotland, being a first deposit on options for the Standard licensed holding, near Coromandel. This property is held by a syndicate of six gentlemen who have, at considerable expense, so far opened up five large reefs, assays from all of which have yielded mo-t encouraging results. The option is given for six months to the Scotch corporation, the vendors receiving a substantial cash payment and a percentage of the t-hares in a company to bo formed, having not less than £20.000 working capital. Great credit is due to the enterprising firm of J. I. Philips and Co., who through Mr E. 11. ijardy, their district manager at Coromandel, who is ulso the local representative of the Scottish Corporation have " placed " this property in probably one of the shortest times on record, viz-, two weeks from the first communication by cable. A thorough survey of the present workings, plans and reports is now being made, to forward home by next mail. Wo understand that Messrs J. I. Philips ;ind Co., who have in their staff two miuing engineers of wide experience in Transvaal, Aineri* ca, and Ta-mania, are preparing the necessary plans for erection of batteries, (Sfcc., in connection with the Standard and other properties. In reference to the lectures lately delivered on '■ Our Goldfielks " by the Rev. Campbell, ho thiew on to a i creen a view of Australia, showing tho goldfields, and he regretted that lie had no slides showing our own fields- Before leaving Auckland he was presented by Messrs John I. Philips mid Co., Mining Engineers and Surveyors, with n large plate, in the form of a I.mtern slide of the large plan of the Elauraki Peninsula, goldfield executed by that firm to tho orler of Messrs Bewick, Moreing and Co, Mining Engineers, of London. Mr Campbell was very pleased, and as lie intends giving lectures in America and other parts of the world, this new flide will be a great acquisition, showing, as it does, every claim from Cape Colvillo to Te Aroha.
