It, H, M. Foktuxe, W. AT.TiTnm Butt, October 9th, 1890. Annual Report. To the Subscribers and Members of the Rotorua Library and Reading Room : - Gentlemen, —Your committee begs to present the .eighth annual report and balance sheet. Since last nnnu.il meeting the institution has suffered a severe loss by the death of Mr H. W. Neighbour who at various times filled the oifices of committeeman, treasurer and secretary to great .advantage. Shortly after his death your committee in placing on record its appreciation of his services resolved to open a subscription for tho purpose of defraying the cost of a. portrait to bo placed in the institute, ,as a mark of respect to his memory. The portiuit now hangs beside those of Me.-srs J. C. Blytlie and C. M. Wilson both foundation members of the Institution. The receipts from nil sources during the past 12 months amounted to £59 7s Od. It is to be hoped that that members who are in arrears will come forward and pay ■their subscriptions in order to facilitate the working of the institute and enable the committee to obtain a fresh supply of books tho demand for ■which is insatiable. During the present term the Library has been increased by 35 volume* purchased in Auckland, and by donations of books from Messrs Burns and Boord. The committee desires to place on record its thanks to the two last named gentlemen. The dilapidated condition of tho existing building renders it necessary that something should bo done to utilise the section in Arawa St granted by tho Government for the erection of a library. It is all the more desirable that some step should be tkeu in this direction as the repairs promised to the existing building have not been carried out. With this object your committee opened a building fund and though as yet it only amounts to a few pounds it is hoped that it will be much augmented during tho coming season both by concerts and donations. Election of Officers. The election of officers for the ensuing voar was thtn proceeded with and resulted as follows.:—President, Mr C. Malfroy; Vice President, Mr W. K. Purcell; Committee, MessrsCorlett, Samson, Webber, Boord, McAuley, Kirk, Williams, Wott, and Burns. 'lhe meeting then closed. At a committee meeting which followed Messrs William ß and Watt were reelected treasurer and secretary respectively.
