FOOTBALL.

Saturday's match decided the series of five East and West matches arranged at the beginning of the season to infuse a little extra interest into the body of footballers ih tho district, and to get as many players as possible into fair 1 ' training for the' matches against outside district teams. The reward for tho victors in the series of games was to be a cap of distinctive feature to he worn by the representatives of the winning side

The match under notice was the fourth of the series, and as the West had won on two previous occasions, and the East on one, the match was very keenly contested. The game was unfortunately characterised by a good deal of rough play,, and, worse still, some of the players- could not restrain their tempers and some rather violent and unparliamentary language was heard. It is a pity such things as this should have to be recorded and the management of the Chili will do well to be very severe' on anything of this sort and effectually nip it in the bud.
