TOKAANU.
[FROM OUR OWX CORRESPONDENT! - ,] The great meeting has now ended, and the natives are wending their way homeward wearily. All that appears to have been done, is the collecting of a. few hundred pounds towards giving four or five fortunate ones a holiday trip to old England, where doubtless the burden tliey will bear, will be "referred to the Government of New Zealand," as was the last petition a similar deputation essayed to present to the Queen. The assembly has not been particularly remunerative to the local storekeepers but it was a sign of the end when the.many hawkers and pedlars took their departure for fields and pastures news. The Bishop' of Waiapri was here last Sunday accompanied by a lnitivc.' student. The latter in addressing the Parliament pointed out their freedom under the British Hag compared to what it might have been under any other rule/ Tokaanu, !>th May.
