LADY SHAVERS.
Tho woman barber is evidently a fixed institution in Chicago, where she lms become so popular and successful that trade jealousy was aroused, and it was determined to pass an ordinance prohibiting women from engaging in the occupation of a barber. Ono of the chief lady barbers thereupon made up her miud to defend her right to practise the profession she had chosen, and attended the meeting on her own behalf, and on that of tho hundred and fifty other women barbers in the city. .She represented that women are coming to the front in this business. "There is a reason for this," she said. ""Women barbers do not drink nor carouse, consequently their nerves are always steady ami their touch is light. They do not chow tobacco nor smoke cigars and always treat their customers with the utmost politeness." This plain talk created a great uproar, but the speaker smiled and sat down, satisiied that she had shown the meeting that women can hold their own anywhere.
