A QUESTION OF INTEREST TO TRADESMEN.

A point of interest was settled the other day at Nelson. A tradesman, in accordance with a notice on the billheads, charged interest on an overdue account and sued for the amount in Court. The S.M. said lie had looked up authorities and found several, whereby it appeared that the notice on the billhead was not sufficient to enable interest to be charged. It was not necessary that there should be an agreement between the parties, but there should be a letter or something to say that interest would be charged from a certain date, in which case legal interest, at 8 per cent only could be charged.
