The Wairoa Guardian nays:— Messrs Parsons and party who left for theßuakituri country thiee weeks ago, to further proßecute gold prospecting operations, returned on Wednesday. They report being fairly successful in their explorations, but have been compelled to suspend for a time owing to the severity of the weather. They brought in a sample of gold obtained from Bhallow sinking in different parts of the country traversed, and also several quartspecimens, some of which bear indica tion of haviDg been burnt) the result of volcanic action ; and Messrs Par* sons and party state that a consider' able portion of the country ahows evidence of having been the seat of * great volcanic upheaval. They purpose suspending further explorations until the weather beoomea milder, when it is intended to resume work on a Systematic scale.
