A REMARKABLE DEAF MAN.
A j'oing American presented him? so 1 * at the University at Heidelberg for examination preparatory to receiving the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. The first inquiry he made was whether the examining professors had beards. Astonishment waxed higher still when it became know a that the young American was utterly bereft of the power of hearing, but so oxpoil had he become in reading men's countenances, and interpreting the motion of the facial and labial muscles, that lie could understand every word spoken to him by one whoso face was uncovered with hair. To the wonderment of a 1! he went through his examination with perfect ease, and no one would have believed from his corrrct answers that he did not hear a word that was said. He got his degree.
