PUBLIC ENTERTAINMENT.

On the 11th *nd 12th of February a charming entertainment whs given ut the Pukeroa Hull, by Mr Boult, f.-bo has for some time been training a chorus of young ladies. It commenced with Franz Abt's Cantata " The Water Fairies," arrayed for the stage by Mr Boult, who also designed the dresses, and arranged the dances. The fairies were attired in some glazed material, no sleeves, low bodies and scalloped bottom to the short skirt-, each carried a gold wand with a large silver star. The two fairies attending the Queen, Misses Malfroy and Dansey, were dressed in bright red with black velvet trimming on to which were sewn silver stars, and the Queen, Master Hubert James, had on a transparent dress of net, plentifully sewn with silver sheen, a gold crown, wand and an old gold train falling from the shoulders. The drilling of the troupe was excellent and the chorus singing crisp and distinct with a remarkably good tone. Miss Malfroy as Ella sang with great spirit and acted her part wellMiss Dansey, as Melita, looked her part to perfection and her beautiful contralto voice quite delighted the audience, Master James made a good Queen, his costume was capital and he sang well. Mention must he made of the dancing of Miss H. Yates which was very pleasing. The tableaux, "Dream Faces," "Ten little Niggers," and " Bluebeard's wives," wero novel effects and created quite a sensation. A farewell concert is to be given to Mr Boult and Master Hubert Jamc-b, on Friday next, when Mr Boult's pupils Misses Dansey, Corletfc and Malfroy, Master James and Herr Both will all sing, and the Orpheus quartet by Messrs Webber, Williams, Bristowe and Boult will make its first public appearance. The cor.ert will be followed by refreshments and dancing.
