ENEMY ’PLANES ATTACK SCOTTISH OBJECTIVES THREE ’PLANES SIGHTED OVER EDINBURGH By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright Received This Day, 9 a.m. ; LONDON, Oet. 16. The Air Ministry states that German '’planes attempted to attack Scottish objectives this afternoon. The Royal Airforce inflicted casualties. It is stated that three ’planes were sighted over Edinburgh at 12.35 p.m. Anti-aircraft units opened .fire. The raids were principally directed on the Firth of Forth. They lasted for two hours, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The ’planes came ;in waves of three. As far as can be ascertained there were no direct hits on the objectives, but there was some damage from shrapnel. The anti-aircraft guns around Edinburgh went into action shortly after 2 p.m. Ihe weather was fine and shell bursts high in the sky were clearly visible. The firing was particularly heavy on the Firth of Forth and there was also much aerial activity south from the city towards Pentland Hills.
